Born in 1896 in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture. At the age of 7 he began training in Makie. He studied at the Ishikawa Prefectural Industrial School Lacquer Technology Department and the Tokyo Fine Arts School Lacquer Technology Department. In 1943, he became a professor at Tokyo School of Fine Arts, his alma mater. He taught for the next 36 years. In 1947 (Showa 22) he became a member of the Japan Art Academy, and in 1955 (Showa 30) he was recognized as a Living National Treasure. While he is working hard to revive traditional crafts, he is also exploring new maki-e techniques, such as teaching Namiki Seisakusho to make makie fountain pens (Dunhill Namiki). In 1965, his book ``Urushi no Monogatari'' won the Mainichi Publishing Culture Award. He was a master craftsman who left his name in the history of lacquer crafts, and was also praised as the ``Lacquer Saint.''

This work is made with silk laces, a matching outer box, and a matching box. The beautiful luster of the lacquer that draws you in and the elegantly dancing plovers make this a masterpiece.
