This is a Bizen sake cup made by Toyo Kaneshige, the first Living National Treasure and the founder of the great Bizen ware movement. He was the first Bizen ware potter to become a Living National Treasure. He succeeded in reviving Bizen ware, which had lost popularity to Imari ware and Kutani ware since the mid-Edo period, and is known as the ``father of the revival of Bizen ware.'' Not only was he an excellent potter himself, but his achievements in the history of Bizen ware are immeasurable, such as nurturing many disciples and producing living national treasures one after another.
Even though Touyo Sensei has many elegant styles, this one has a profound feel, and is a dish that goes well in the mouth and holds well in the hand.
